Help queer black person move to safer home
Donation protected
I am raising money on behalf of my friend, A, who wants to be kept anonymous for personal reasons, they are a queer, Black, non-binary person.
Currently A works as a low-salaried cultural worker who has been furloughed. They need to move out of the property they are living in because it is not safe for them.
A is estranged and previously homeless. For around two months during the winter/Christmas period they stayed in hostels, AirBnb's, and people's couches before moving into their current place.
The landlord at A's current property has admitted her actions/comments towards them have been racist, these aggressions are recurrent and frequent.
When A challenged their landlord on issues of race, the landlord continued to be defensive towards them which is emotionally violent. It has left them feeling silenced and uncomfortable in their own home.
This is unacceptable. This fundraiser is dedicated to helping A move to a safer environment.
A target of £3,000 has been set to put towards the cost of:
- a deposit
- the first month's rent
- the cost of physically moving house
- therapy
- any other things they may need
If you are a supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement, please donate to this fundraiser. This is a very tangible and real way that you can take an active anti-racist stand and improve the life of a Black person in your community.
