Zack's Invites to USASA Nationals

The following letter is from our son, Zack Zaman, a 7th grade student at Emerson Middle School in Bar Harbor, Maine and a competitive snowboarder with the Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) Weekend Snowboard Program at Sugarloaf Mountain.
We are very proud of Zack! For the past 4 months, after 5 days of school each week, he leaves home Friday evening or by 5am on Saturday to drive 3 hours or more for training and local competitions in his Maine Mountain Series. He has also spent each of his school breaks on the snow. This high level of time, effort and commitment has paid off with four invitations to compete in Slalom, Giant Slalom, Slopestyle and Boardercross at the USASA National Championship Competitions in Colorado from April 1 to 7. Scholarship applications and letters have been submitted to charitable organizations locally and within the sport of snowboarding, but unfortunately, no financial awards have been received to cover the cost of travel, lodging, food, coaching and competition fees. It is for this reason that Zack is reaching out to his family, friends and local community for financial support. No matter the value, any contribution will be appreciated and helpful to this excellent student and dedicated young athlete looking forward to attending this exciting end of season event at Copper Mountain, Colorado for the very first time!
Dear Family, Friends and Community Members,
Thank you for taking the time to consider my request for funding. My third season training with the CVA weekend program has been fantastic. I have met several goals that I set for myself last fall and will be competing in April at the USASA National Championship competition in Colorado for the first time!
The season of 2016-2017 was a very productive season for me. Some of the goals I set for myself with my coaches were to improve my speed, spin a 180 off of a rail and/or box, improve my spinning, and to attempt more rails, boxes, and jumps. I have achieved all of those goals greatly, and have also set and accomplished more goals throughout the season. I was able to ride and score closer to the most advanced competitor in my age group than I have ever been able to do over the past three years. I also learned many more riding methods and park tricks compared to the other years I've snowboarded with CVA. The more difficult tricks and skills I’ve learned include a Backside 360, Backside 540, and a Backside 360 onto a rail. Because of my improvement, I earned a second place medal ahead of another competitor who usually scores higher than me.
Out of five events that I competed in this season, I got invited to compete at the USASA National Championships at Copper Mountain, Colorado for four out of those five events. Some of my greatest goals have been accomplished since the end of my regional season, however, so I did not get to perform them in those competitions. This is why I am extra excited to use them to my advantage when I go to Nationals for the first time this year!
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and for considering my request for assistance. Your support will be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Zack Zaman
