Isreal Lawrence and Carrie Hansen need our help. Five days ago Isreal was experiencing extreme abdominal pain and fatigue and Carrie took him to the ER. The thinking was that he might have gallstones, but a CT scan revealed multiple masses in his abdomen and chest. The abdominal mass had caused a perforated bowel, and he was rushed into a life-saving surgery to prevent sepsis. This was a major abdominal surgery with a surgical incision that spans the length of his torso and requires a major recovery process. And then tonight doctors reported that Isreal has colon cancer. They are still trying to determine the diagnosis of the chest mass, and need more testing to figure out its pathology and involvement.
His medical team says that he definitely has a chance to survive and heal, but he needs to begin chemotherapy asap. Carrie and Isreal need IMMEDIATE financial help to make this happen. Isreal's job provides very limited medical insurance, and he needs to get into City of Hope for treatment in the next few days. In order to begin treatment there they need thousands of dollars that they don't have. Carrie is tirelessly working to get him on Medi-Cal, but that process will take at least a month, and he needs to begin treatment before then. And they need the doctors there to help figure out the pathology of his chest mass.
Isreal is unable to work, and the apartment where he lives with his two kids is being packed up by his friends this weekend so that he can move in with Carrie and her children to begin his cancer treatment-- once he can leave the hospital. Chemo aside, he has at least a two-month recovery from his emergency bowel surgery, and needs significant care and assistance. Carrie has also not been able to work since this has happened as Isreal requires constant care and advocacy in the hospital. And since he can't work for the foreseeable future, she is going to need to financially support him. And, even once they can get the Medi-Cal to kick in, the out of pocket costs they are going to have to absorb are about to be exorbitant.

These two had each been through some hard stuff before they met, and finding each other has been all sorts of restorative. They are like twin flames who finally finally finally came upon the other. And let’s help him survive on even a most basic level as he is unable to work until he is significantly stronger and healthier.
As you can imagine, walking into the ER for what you thought was a minor medical problem and walking out with a life-threatening diagnosis and stitched together body has sent their lives into an absolute tailspin. It has been a violent and terrifying ordeal, but Isreal couldn't be in better hands than Carrie's. If you know her, you know this to be true. And if you know him, you want him here for the long haul. If we can, let's lift them up. As high as we possibly can.
