Guatemala Mission Trip

Hello, my name is Natalie! I am a senior at Florida State University studying Communications Science and Disorders. On February 25, 2023, a team from FSU's Speech and Hearing Clinic and I will travel to Panajachel, Guatemala, to serve the Central Highlands for seven days. We will partner with an outreach organization, Porch De Salomon, who have been hosting short-term mission teams in Guatemala since 2006. Most mission teams focus on building concrete homes for impoverished families due to the extreme poverty rate in this location. With the lack of health care, they also provide free village medical and dental clinics. Our team will give much-needed audiological services and hearing aids to those in need in the area.

Sustainability is our goal, and poverty prevents routine evaluations and treatment of hearing loss in the Central and Western Highlands. Audiological services are vital in this area, and we hope to provide training and assistance to this population. While children are usually the focus on audiology mission trips, we will provide service to both children and adults. We want to offer the gift of sound to those who need/want it!

This trip is being funded entirely through donations and by those attending the mission trip. All medical supplies, audiology supplies, equipment, hearing aid batteries, etc. that will be used on the trip must be taken with us. Any donations of money, medical supplies, and hearing aid batteries are being sought! EVERY PENNY donated (apart from what the GoFundMe platform collects) for this trip will be used directly for this trip, whether it is supplies or another benefit for the people of Guatemala. Any unused supplies will be left with Porch De Salomon.
