Support Joey Molland’s Fight for Recovery
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
This is Joey’s girlfriend, Mary.
I hesitated to start a GoFundMe when Joey became ill in November, hoping that he would improve or recover. Unfortunately, he has been in the hospital now for 46 days.
I will try to be candid about Joey’s condition without getting too specific in order to protect his privacy. I will say that this has been a complicated, unpredictable journey.
Joey was vaguely ill throughout the fall, and then in early December acquired a very bad bacterial infection due to his diabetes. The infection caused septicemia and traveled through his body, causing harm in multiple critical organs and bones.
His recovery has been slow and arduous, including several surgeries and procedures.
As you all know, Joey is a strong-willed, independent man. He is fighting with everything he has, but every day is a battle.
He was re-diagnosed with pneumonia again today and is in and out of consciousness due to the multiple medical fronts his body is trying to address.
He needs intense physical and psychological support while in the hospital and especially after (God willing) he leaves the hospital.
His health insurance only covers 2 weekly visits from physical and occupational therapists to help rehabilitate him for an hour each.
That is not nearly enough. He is unable to walk more than a few feet now and needs intense mental therapy to be able to “rejoin” the world again.
Finding a care facility for him to go to has proven extremely difficult due to behavioral issues he experienced when fighting the worst of his infection and experiencing delirium, i.e., not realizing he was in the hospital or why, and having the natural urge to disconnect himself from life-saving devices.
His condition has stabilized somewhat, but it has also plateaued because of limited resources in the hospital.
I will be happy to answer specific questions through messenger.
I ask for help in order for us to set up a comprehensive, consistent physical and mental regimen in order to bring Joey back to some of the strength and mental alertness he possessed before this devastating event happened to him.
I miss him. I want him to have the spark and motivation to know that he WILL get out of the hospital one day.
And he WILL play his music again.
Thank you all so much for considering donating to this cause. So much love to everyone from Joey and myself.
Sincerely, Mary J.
