Nate wheely needs your help
Donation protected
Nate is completing his first triathlon to raise money towards his first wheelchair. Accompanied and aided by Batgirl, Robin, Catwomen and Alfred (aka Darcey, Kit, Clare, Godmother Holly and Dan), Batman-Nate will take on Marvel Superhero Triathlon at Eaton Dorney on 12th August 20232. The spectacle alone is surely worthy of a donation and we are all mightily relieved that the Paw Patrol phase is nearing an end!
Nate was diagnosed with childhood cancer (Neuroblastoma) aged only 12 weeks. Despite fighting his way successfully through 8 cycles of chemotherapy, Nate sustained a permanent spinal cord injury. Nate has surpassed all of our wildest expectations by first learning to stand and then walk with the aid of special boots. His determination, resilience (and awesome sense of humour) never fail to impress us but even super heroes legs get tired. Nate is now struggling to keep up with his siblings and friends and we are struggling to carry him. It’s time for wheels!
Nate is due to start school in September and needs a wheelchair to be able to access and explore outdoor areas yet still have energy to have fun when he gets there. We would like Nate to have the ability to access and enjoy life off a tarmac path- for this he needs a chair that can adapt to the occasion and that he can drive without having his freedom restricted by needing an adult/strong person to propel him.
As a family we have absorbed the cost of giving up work to care for a sick child, adapting our house to make it safe and accessible and most recently launch legal proceedings against our local authority who are failing to help Nate get the access to an education that he needs and deserves. Funding the “bat mobile” to enable Nate to live his life to the fullest is when we need help. We have absolutely no doubt that in a decade (or so) we will be celebrating momentous achievements from this awe inspiring superhero and this is just the start.
