The Giving Hope Fund To Fight Cancer was created for friends, family and community to unite together and give back to our friend Jenny Chung who has been recently diagnosed with inoperable stage 4 lung cancer.  She is fighting for her life and we want to help her with that fight. Jenny is a loving wife and mother of two children and has been working in supply chain management for over 30 years. Since I have known Jenny, she has selflessly given so much of her time and energy to friends, family, co-workers, acquaintances as well as to complete strangers. She gives from her heart, her smile and kind soul to help her closest friends and all those around her. Jenny reminds me of the story of the giving tree. She is always giving so much of herself to others and never asks for anything in return. She has always shown great strength and courage even on the days that seem impossible to face. Jenny gives support by showing trust and believing in you even if you don't believe in yourself. She has taught me to always keep fighting and ask for help when you need it.  Being part of this fundraiser is giving me the chance to give back to Jenny and ask others for help.

In December 2021, Jenny Chung was diagnosed with Stage 4 Inoperable Non Small Cell Lung Cancer with Her2 Mutation. She had recently decided to take a step back from her career to focus on her health and family after the passing of her mother on Jan 2021. Jenny's mom's passing was very sudden and the entire family was shocked and grieving. The loss took place during the height of COVID, the kids could not be at the bedside of their grandmother in hospital and only a limited number of family members could attend the funeral.  It was a difficult time full of grief, loss and isolation.

Jenny made a decision in Nov 2021 to decline a promotion as she wanted to spend more time with her kids. The day after making this decision she was coughing up blood and was rushed to the hospital. After multiple tests over a month, Jenny was told she had Stage 4 Lung Cancer. She was shocked with the diagnosis as she does not work in a chemical environment and has never smoked in her life.

Telling her two kids who just lost their Grandmother that their mother is now fighting a battle with Cancer was one of the most difficult things for Jenny to do in her life. Her children watched Jenny grieve for her mother and now hear that they may also lose their own mother. Her husband and partner in life was devastated as he always pictured his future with her by his side.  The possibility that she would not be there with him to celebrate and watch their children grow up was unfathomable.  Seeing her family process the news was more painful than the pain she was feeling in her chest. Her first thoughts were how to make sure they would be okay and that they would not suffer from her cancer.

Jenny's diagnosis is further complicated by the fact that she has a very unique Her2 mutation that is found in only 1-2% of lung adenocarcinomas. In the past 6 months since diagnosis she has had radiation and chemotherapy. They stopped chemo after 3 rounds as it was not working on her mutation and her cancer spread and grew. She was then advised that there are very limited treatments for her mutation. There is one treatment with a specific drug that has had the best results for patients with Jenny's mutation. The drug for the treatment is costly and would need to be administered every 3 weeks. It costs approximately 195K per year for the treatment. Jenny's private insurance with her company does not cover this particular medication.  Jenny's best chance of extending her life and survival of her cancer is to start this treatment as soon as possible.  They have exhausted all other options for support as the drug is approved for some cancers but not lung cancer.

We want this Fund to help Jenny with her battle against cancer so she can continue to fight to extend her life and be with her family and friends.

The Giving Hope Fund to Fight Cancer has a goal of $195,000 to help financially cover Jenny's medicine for her treatment for one year.

Jenny will need to have a treatment every three weeks, in one year that will be 17 treatments.  Each treatment will cost approximately $11, 440 to prepare and dispense at the pharmacy. There are also additional expenses to have the treatment administered at a private facility.

Please help Jenny in her fight for her life so she can be here for her family and friends. Please consider donating what you can.
