Funeral and Care Expenses Dorothy Wilson
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Wendy and I am the daughter of Dorothy.
I really don't want this to be a 'woe is me' story, so I will try to keep the emotion out of this and just present the facts.
My mum passed away on August 4th 2024, at the ripe old age of 88. Let's just say she had a pretty tough life and the last 10 years or so were miserable due to a whole range of health issues.
My mum was never a forward planner, so I knew I had to plan for her funeral. For 21 years, we paid a monthly premium into an funeral insurance plan to make sure that when the time came, we would have the funds to pay for the costs involved. Unbeknownst to us the policy pay out was capped at age 85, so therefore the company involved didn't pay out (except a token nominal amount). My husband and I are now left with a £3.5k funeral bill.
On top of this, before my mum entered hospital, she had recently moved into a nursing home as she needed 24 hour care, due to various health issues. We have received a bill for £2.5k to cover nursing costs.
My dad passed away in 1980 at the age of 44. My brother passed away in 1983 at the age of 20. Therefore this is my responsibility alone.
My husband and I have always worked and paid our bills. We have no debts apart from those mentioned above. Neither of us are able to go back to work, as my husband is 70 and receiving ongoing treatment for cancer. I am 60, disabled and awaiting surgery.
We are hoping to sell my jewellery and a large family tent to try and gather some of the money together, but I don't imagine that will be much. GoFundMe is a long shot and my story will likely not be seen, but in the event it is, and you can spare a little, any amount will be gratefully received. We just don't know what else to do - we have no way of paying these bills.
Please accept our grateful thanks if you can help us in any way. What we'd like most of all is to grieve in peace without the stress of these debts.
