Sprinting To Rio 2016

I remember first hearing my teammates scream after I crossed the line and when I looked up on the board and saw my name with a time of 20.22s making me the third fastest in Canadian history, I couldn’t help but smile. This had me ranked 9th going into the 2012 Olympic Games and ever since that moment, I’ve been striving to feel that feeling again.

For those who know me, know that I live and breathe Track and Field. Unfortunately passion doesn’t promise results, it only keeps you going when times get hard. After falling under the weather throughout my Olympic experience and fracturing my toe at the World Championships the following year, I have been doing everything in my power to get myself back on track.

With everything that I have seen and experienced not just in this sport, but in life, I now understand how important timing is . At some point in our lives we all come to the realization that we've outgrown our current circumstances and need a fresh start to help continue our growth as human beings. You just have to embrace the lessons along the way and that I definitely have done.

I have now taken the initiative to relocate to the United States and pursue my dream in a new environment despite having been through what I've endured recently. I will now be training along side Coach Kevin Tyler who has coached the last two Canadian record holders within the 400m. Dan Pfaff who coached Donovan Bailey to his Olympic title is a member of the coaching staff as well.

As many of you may be wondering what it is I had to endure here is a short run down.

This year, my training group experienced a tragedy. Daundre Barnaby, 24, passed away from a drowning incident in the ocean at one of our warm weather training camps. A couple days after helping pull the body of my teammate from the ocean, my body went into complete shock. Sleeping on the bathroom floor for a number days and losing nearly 10lbs within 17 hours, I couldn't help but be surprised to hear that I was expected to do an intense workout two days later. It was obvious that I was not ready to jump back into any form of strenuous work. When I expressed concerns about my health it led to me being dropped from my coach more than half way into the track year, a few weeks before the season began.

Next year, THE OLYMPIC YEAR, will be my second Olympics! But in order for my dream to come true, I need the help and support of others. They say it takes a village to raise a child, but it takes even more to raise an athlete and I firmly stand by that.  With your help, I will be able to put all of my focus into my training and will have to worry less about my financial stresses.

Thank you for reading my story and again anything is appreciated!
