80 over 80 San Francisco is a campaign to honor the richness that our older residents bring to San Francisco by interviewing 80 people who are 80 or older. We will be sharing their stories through video, audio and print. Our primary goal is to have more people meet and celebrate some of our oldest residents through this work.
We are doing this now because San Francisco is aging. By 2030 , 27% will be 60 or older. We want more people to appreciate and get to know their older neighbors!

So far we have talked to 65 older adults! We have incredible diversity, including participants who identify as Black, Latinx, Asian, or LGBTQ+, people living in their homes or assisted living, and many interviews in languages other than English. We want this to truly represent our city's older population.
We also know that ageism against older people is an urgent problem. Ageism has serious consequences for health and wellbeing, something that was on display during the COVID-19 epidemic and is increasingly recognized as worsening quality of life and premature death for older people . A recent UN Global Report noted that ageism is associated with "poorer physical and mental health, increased social isolation and loneliness, financial insecurity, decreased quality of life and premature death."
We hope the stories and voices of our oldest residents will help all of us, across all ages, connect as people and reduce the stereotypes that harm older people.
We need your help!
We are looking for funding to:
- hire video and audio editors
- language interpreters to help us professionally edit and produce interviews we have done in languages other than English
- design and print a book to commemorate this campaign, and distribute it at no cost to the older adults we profile for this campaign.
Donations will be made out to our fiscal sponsor, the Community Living Campaign, a designated 501(c)(3) organization, and are tax-deductible.
Older people are fundamental to the personality, success, and cultural fabric of San Francisco. Join us in bringing their stories to life!
