My name is Grethe. I am 84 years old and was evicted on the 4th of September 2025. I have now been homeless for 4 months and am living week-to-week in a single hotel room. A few generous people have helped keep me from being street homeless but that has run out.
My main problem is I do not have savings to rely upon and no friends or family close by that can help (other than my son, who is fighting long-term illness and is also disabled). We live week-by-week on the benefits we get each month and there is no way to save.
I need help for the following:
Temporary living costs
- Food
- Hotel
- Laundry
- Storage
New Home costs
- Rent in advance
- Deposit (* x2 or x3 rent)
(*I have no recommendations or a guarantor so I would most likely need to put down 2-3 months rent as a deposit).
- Storage delivery
- Furniture (e.g. beds)
Please help if you can. I have only been offered emergency accommodation which by the councils own admission is not suitable for the elderly and disabled and according to them would most likely be a bed and breakfast which could e several towns away (the thought of that terrifies me).
My dream is to own my own home through a HOLD (Home Owners for Long-tern Disability) scheme, so that I never have to deal with another landlord ever again that might evict me.
The reality though is that I may have to find a rented property instead and in order to achieve that I would need to pay rent and deposit (possibly several months in advance as I have no references).
I ask you all to please help me out of this situation. I really need your helping hand!
Lots of love,
Grethe
