Heathers Spine Surgery
Donation protected
December 2010 Heather was age 16. My sister began to tell my parents that her side was hurting her. My parents didn't want to believe that something could be wrong so they brought her to her primary care physician whom told her she had MS a couple weeks later she was referred to a neurologist at Fletcher Allen and was diagnosed with Dystonia. Our family was devastated not knowing what this genetic disorder was so we did research; Heather became very twisted and unable to walk. My wedding August of 2011 Heather was in a wheel chair and we were unsure that she would ever be able to walk again. A miracle happened in 2013 and she began receiving Botox shots in her hip this helped her begin to move around a little better! We were so happy to see starting to walk again, June 2014 we were able to see her walk across the stage and graduate it was the best feeling in the world and seeing the accomplishments she had made despite this terrible disorder that limited her. For about a year now Heather has done well although continues to be limited. About ten months ago my family found out she would need spine surgery (which blew our mind) due to the fact that she will continue to be twisted 75% and long term it will begin to effect her organs. Heather is having rods put in her spine to straighten her up. Heathers surgery is October 26th 2015; my parents have never asked for anything despite all they have went through so I am doing this to help them. They will be traveling to and from Burlington and post surgery she will be recovering for atleast 8 weeks.
