Help a Veteran with Multiple Sclerosis Live Comfortably
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Mark, and I am reaching out for support to help my wife, a veteran who has bravely served our country and is now battling a relentless disease—Multiple Sclerosis (MS). For the past 16 years, my wife has fought this debilitating condition with incredible strength and courage. Every day is a challenge, but she faces it head-on, never giving up, even though MS continues to take more from her.
About her Disease
Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic and progressive disease with no known cure. It affects the nervous system, causing increasing difficulty with mobility and daily activities. In my wife’s case, it has steadily worsened over the years, leaving her dependent on mobility aids and facing the daily fear of falling or hurting herself while trying to navigate our home. Despite all this, she remains determined, and I am dedicated to doing everything I can to help her live a life of dignity and comfort.
The Struggle for Accessible Living
While the VA has been helpful in some aspects of my wife’s care, providing a scooter, a rollator, physical therapy on occasion, and a handrail for a single part of our home, there is so much more that is needed. My wife’s mobility has significantly declined, and our home is simply not suited for her changing needs.
We’ve reached out to the VA for further assistance with crucial home modifications, but we were turned down for many essential items, including ramps, a walk-in tub, and a stairlift. Additionally, she has exhausted her allowable VA benefits for PTSD treatment, which has been an ongoing struggle since her time serving in the military.
This is why I am turning to the kindness of others for help. We need to raise funds to make our home a safe and accessible place where my wife can continue to live as independently as possible. We have a long list of necessary modifications that the VA cannot assist with, and the costs are overwhelming.
What Your Support Will Go Toward
Here is what your generous contributions will help us accomplish:
- Ramps for Front and Garage Doors: As her mobility declines, she can no longer navigate steps safely. Installing ramps will allow her to enter and exit our home without the constant risk of falling.
- Walk-In Tub: Bathing has become a significant challenge. A walk-in tub will allow her to bathe safely and even relax in warm water to help ease the chronic pain and muscle stiffness caused by MS.
- Stair Lift: Moving between floors is nearly impossible for her now. A stair lift will allow her to access all areas of our home, especially the basement, without the fear of injury.
- Additional Handrails and Safety Features: Handrails throughout the house, especially in high-risk areas, are critical to help her move around with more stability and confidence.
- Stem Cell Therapy and PTSD Treatment: The VA does not cover experimental treatments like stem cell therapy, which could help slow the progression of MS. We are also seeking further support for PTSD treatment that the VA has refused to continue funding, despite its profound impact on her mental well-being.
Why This Matters So Much
These modifications will not only provide my wife with a sense of independence but also greatly reduce the physical and emotional pain she experiences daily. As her primary caregiver, I want to be able to help her more effectively, and these changes will allow both of us to live more comfortably and safely.
How You Can Help
Your support can make a world of difference in my wife’s life. There are several ways you can help us reach our goal and make our home more accessible:
- Donate: Every dollar counts, and any contribution will help us cover the costs of home modifications, medical treatments, and the necessary aids.
- Share Our Campaign: If you are unable to donate, sharing our story with your friends, family, and social networks will help spread the word and bring us closer to reaching our goal.
- Offer Prayers and Support: Your thoughts, prayers, and words of encouragement mean the world to us. Knowing that others care gives us the strength to continue fighting this battle.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read our story, and we are deeply grateful for any support you can provide—whether it’s a donation, a prayer, or simply sharing our campaign.
Together, we can make a difference and give my wife the comfort and care she deserves after all she has given to our country.
Thank you and God bless!
