A 25 year old San Franciscan native, who lives at home with his parents, finds out he has cancer?!
Dramatic first line aside, I honestly don't think my story is that special or out of the ordinary. I certainly didn't foresee this being an experience I would be going through (especially at the young age of 25--or so I am told is young), but such is life.
The specific kind of cancer I have is Nodular Sclerosis Hodgkin's Lymphoma. It has a favorable treatment outcome, with treatment being 6 months of ABVD chemotherapy. ABVD stands for the kind of cocktail of medicine I receive during my infusions twice a month--each letter representing a different medicine.
The reason I ask for assistance in funding is due to the fact that my parents right now are incurring a heavy majority of the expenses from the early test/exploratory procedures to the chemotherapy treatment I am receiving now. And they do so happily, as they would do anything for me. My mom even says she wishes she would be the person this is all happening to in my stead. But I tell her that I am stronger and have better odds of positively going through this--thus, I am happy it is not her enduring this.
This whole story started with her actually. I was cooking, and she looked at me oddly, and asked to examine my neck. Sure enough, I went to check the mirror and found an abnormal lump. Basically--if not for her, and her tenacity with doctors and appointments, I would not be receiving treatment as quickly as I have.
So I write this, 3 out of the 12 treatments in, for her, and my father--two people for whom I wish I could give the world, as they have sought to give me.
Thank you for reading if you go to this point. :)
