Ashley’s road to recovery!

Hi, my name is Michael and I’m trying to raise funds for my girlfriend Ashley. Ashley is one of the most amazing people this world has to offer. Her smile could light up the dimmest of rooms, her personality is simply unmatched and her heart is pure.

Ashley just finished celebrating her 24th birthday on 7/4 of this year and unfortunately 6 days later tragedy struck. Ashley was in great health the entirety of her life but on 7/10/22 she unfortunately had a hemorrhagic stroke due to bleeding on her brain caused by an AVM ( arteriovenous malformation). This condition is pretty rare and it’s even less likely that it’s ever discovered because of the small probability of a bleed occurring. The least complicated way of explaining this is that there are a tangle of blood vessels which connects arteries and veins in the brain. The tangle caused high pressure pumping to occur in a system built to handle low pressures and at some point on 7/10/22 in the early morning caused bleeding on the left front portion of Ashley’s brain.

This bleeding has resulted in Ashley losing the ability to speak, having issues writing and spelling, she is currently unable to type on her phone much more than I love you or short simple sentences or phrases that consist of a two or three words, issues with chewing and swallowing and some loss of strength throughout the right side of her body. Ashley is able to hear, comprehend what people say to her and respond via gestures such as waving, blowing kisses and she also is capable of writing a word or two when trying to express a thought or feeling. Although Ashley is in stable condition and the doctors feel as if this won’t worsen, there is a long road ahead in terms of the road to recovery.

Ashley is awaiting word on an exact date for surgery but she will be receiving a 2-part surgery in order to remove the AVM and make sure that another bleed does not occur within the next 7-10 days. The initial surgery involves a small incision in the groin where a stent/catheter would be placed in/near the area of the AVM and then glue would be sent through the stent/catheter to “kill” the AVM. The second part of the surgery unfortunately requires Ashley to have her skull opened so that the AVM and the blood that is currently on her brain can be removed. The doctors are very optimistic especially being that Ashley is so young that a full recovery is certainly well within the realm of possibility but it will be a LONG, TOUGH fight getting things back on track.

Ashley will have to part take in multiple forms of rehab post surgery and nobody can say for sure exactly what she will need prior to seeing the results of the procedure as this is a major, complex surgery. The doctors are extremely optimistic concerning her ability to fully recover as well as extremely confident in being able to perform the surgery without any further complications.

Ashley does have health insurance but we aren’t 100% sure of the co-pays and what she will be responsible for out of pocket, but she does have regular bills to maintain (car, insurance, phone, rent) as well as the everyday needs of a human being. We are unsure when Ashley will be able to return to work or school as she had recently registered to return to college for the upcoming fall semester. Her family and I are doing everything we can to support her however, we aren’t really sure how long this road to recovery will be nor do we know exactly what it will take to help get Ashley back to where she needs to be. Any donation would be used to help cover any co-payments or any medical related expenses not covered by insurance, help cover her monthly expenses and give Ashley peace of mind allowing her to focus on herself and her recovery and not the stresses of overdue bills late fees and repossessions.
