D Acres Of New Hampshire:
The mission: D Acres of New Hampshire is
working towards developing a working model of
collaborative farming that is regenerative to the
ecology and sustainable for the future.
Personal connection:
I personally have had a connection with Dacres
since 2001 when my little yellow VW van pulled into town from Idaho. I was 18 years old when I walked in and the smells of spice and herbs hit me,
I knew it was a place I wanted to explore!
Cause:
The Farm is faced with great difficulty keeping
operations up and running with the current social distancing protocol.
Without the social interactions of guests,
volunteers, tours and workshops the residence
and staff are left with no choice but to become
unemployed and are looking closely at closing
their doors. If they close with the hope to reopen, the
startup costs will be insurmountable and the
nonprofit may not survive the dramatic transition.
Costs:
The operating budget for a year at the farm is
about $140,000, making a monthly budget of over $10,000. That covers payroll, equipment operation and maintenance, food supplies from off site,
animal food and housing, community and resident housing and maintenance, utilities power and
heating, promotional material for educational community outreach programs & initiatives,
advertising and much more.
What it means to me:
Keeping the farm up and running through this
tough time means that we can continue to find
creative ways to supply the community with food, resources and ongoing skills to move forward into the future for many generations to come. I have
been deeply impacted by the many people that
have come through the farm and left a piece of
themselves, found a piece of themself or continue to come back again and again. These are truly
evolutionary times!
