Not Giving Up

Hi, my name is JR and I'm fundraising for my mom, Silvia.

Mom was diagnosed with Stage 3 Liver Cancer on June 30th. The local oncologist in Arlington, TX offered Chemo treatments but with minimal chances of success. Therefore, we pursued a second opinion with an oncologist in Corpus Christi, TX. This second doctor informed us that if Mom did not get any treatment, her life expectancy is less than 6 months. With treatment, she would be adding 6 additional months and depending on how her body reacts to this treatment, she could potentially see that time frame extended. This doctor has provided 2 options that do not require radiation.

After multiple family meetings, we decided to go in the direction of pursuing treatments in Corpus Christi. Mom is currently dealing with multiple side effects of her illness which include increased confusion, intense itching throughout her body, and lack of sleep. On July 19th, Mom had the procedure to insert the Mediport in preparation for her chemo treatments.

Both Mom and Dad are retired and living on Social Security. Committing to this treatment is requiring my parents to relocate to Corpus Christi for 6 months which means they are needing to take on new living arrangements. In addition to this newly incurred cost of living, we are finding that there are multiple medications and treatments that Medicare does not cover. Mom is also requiring a caregiver during the week which will cost at least $1000 a week.

It was difficult for me to come to the decision to create a Go Fund Me account, but after speaking with multiple friends and family, and calculating all the expenses, I am at peace with sharing this life-altering experience that our family is going through. Many friends and family have reached out asking if there is anything they can do to help during this season, and this allows them to support.

As always, the most important thing we are asking for is prayer; however, if you can assist financially, any amount will help offset the expenses.
