About us

Since 2018 Faggamuffin Bloc party has made it their mission to increase the visibility of Black and Brown LGBTQ+ individuals at carnival. We create spaces rooted in the traditions of carnival and celebrating our histories of our community throughout.

Pre-pandemic, Faggamuffin has successfully delivered 2 stages for Hackney Carnival, both having a reach of around 6000 people combined, and supported over 63 creative practitioners; performers, MCs, DJs, Live Acts, volunteers, and core staff. In 2022, Faggamuffin made its return by delivering six events throughout the summer to both spread the message of Faggamuffin as well as provide more opportunities for the artists that Faggamuffin champions and continue to support.

Hackney Carnival

We are very excited to be back at Hackney Carnival 2022 after almost three years. Although despite our tireless efforts we are disappointed to announce we are unable to deliver our regular Soundsystem programming at Bohemia Place in 2022. Carnival Arts has seen a massive decline in funding available all-around. Faggamuffin is one of many Carnival organizations that have not been awarded funding this year.

Faggamuffin was expected to receive a combined 30K of funding for programming for Hackney Carnival 2022. Although both the Art Council and another unnamed donor declined funding and their donation. Unfortunately Faggamuffin is one of the many carnival organizations that received no funding to pursue their mission in creating and celebrating tradition.

Your Support

We will not fold in the face of adversity and our goal is to continue to grow. Faggamuffin will walk the Hackney Carnival parade route, and with the support of Tropical Isles, we are able to meet the criteria to walk the Carnival parade as a Mas band.

Although Faggamuffin continues to need support, which is why we are launching this crowdfunder! With your donations Faggamuffin will be able to continue to distribute funds to the creative practitioners; DJs, Performers, live acts and staff. All donations will go towards our year long programming in 2023, ensuring we can give certainty to our community outside of the ongoing unknowns in the funding landscape. With your support, you are contributing to the visibility and growth of Faggamuffin Bloc Party and show the world what solidarity and allyship can do!

Outline Funding

With your backing we are able to resource Faggamuffin Bloc Party as well as secure a place in Hackney Carnival 2023. 100% of the funding will go towards:

Payment for all artists and volunteers who worked to deliver the mas band and float 2022.

Support in delivering a debriefing session with our community members 2022.

Covering Health and Safety items & materials for our float 2022.

Cover initial costs with the strategy and planning for 2023.

Booking structural support for the soundsystem - staging, rigging, sound engineers, etc 2023.

Artists payments for the soundsystem and deposits 2023.

Basic cover for materials for the costumes, including continuing to work with Tropical Isles 2023.

Payment for new applications to be written for Arts Council, Heritage Fund, and independent fundraising to take place.
