I'm Noor El-Talmas, and I'm reaching out to you on behalf of my cousin, Ola El-Talmas, and her family, who are currently trapped in the heart of Gaza. The horrors of the ongoing conflict have ravaged their lives unlike anything they've ever faced. Unlike myself, fortunate to have grown up in the safety of Canada, Ola's family is now caught in a desperate struggle for survival.

UPDATE - October 2024

It has been one year since the onset of the war, and Ola's situation has only worsened. She has been displaced more than five times due to the bombing of her accommodations. Now, Ola and her family reside in a tent on the outskirts of Khan Younis.

Prices have skyrocketed—some necessities have increased twentyfold—making essentials like food, clothing, and hygiene products unaffordable. Ola cannot even buy a simple pair of flip-flops for her children, as they now cost 80 shekels (about 29 CAD). Clean water is a luxury they cannot afford; the saltwater available to them is unsanitary and unsuitable for drinking, bathing, or cooking. As a result, the children are suffering from rashes due to the poor quality of the water.

With winter approaching, Ola is in urgent need of blankets, shoes, winter clothing, and materials to better prepare their tent for the cold. All of her previous winter supplies were destroyed in the bombing of her last home in Rafah.

Ola's family home, located in the northern region of Gaza, has been severely damaged by the ongoing conflict, prompting them to seek refuge in a crowded apartment in Rafah, alongside other family members. Since the conflict began, they've faced financial strain, struggling to cover basic expenses like rent and food. A carton of eggs now costs 100 shekel (~38 CAD), making the most basic foods unaffordable.

Ola, a gifted artist and devoted mother, cares for her five children with unwavering love and determination. Rama, the eldest at 13, dreams of becoming a doctor and is a swimming prodigy. Jana, 11, shares her mother's passion for art and creativity. Uthman, 9, shows promise in mathematics and dreams of a future as an engineer or scientist. Tameem, 6, has a passion for soccer and dreams of playing professionally one day. And little Salma, at 4, brings joy to their lives with her infectious laughter.

Ola, an entrepreneur at heart, started her own cake business and cooking YouTube channel, striving to provide for her family even in the face of adversity.

FAQ

How will the funds be transferred to Egypt?

Given that the banks in Gaza are no longer operational, all donations will be transferred to Ola's brother in law, Anas AlJamal, who resides in Egypt. Anas will be apply at the VIP Hala office in Cairo to support in evacuating Ola and the family.
