87-yr-old Maja's walk for a Muslim community centre in Egham

87-year-old Maja Hasan is partially sighted, has arthritis, and severe leg ulcers which make it painful for her to walk. She also has essential thrombocythemia (a rare blood cancer) which makes her tire very quickly.

Maja plans to walk an astonishing *42* kilometres to help establish the first Muslim community centre in Egham.

*Maja started her challenge in March 2023 but has had to halt progress because of poor health.*

For context, it takes her an average of 25 mins to walk the 480 meters to her local shop, after which she often needs a day in bed to recover. So the 21 km target may take her several months to complete and a huge effort.

Help Maja make a difference

Maja is raising money to benefit Runnymede Muslim Society in their aim to secure a permanent community centre in Egham. Almost 20 years ago Maja first visited a Ramadan event organised by the society at Royal Holloway University, and has had an interest in the group ever since.

Since 1995, the Runnymede Muslim Society has been providing essential services to local residents around Egham, Virginia Water, and Staines, as well as the global Muslim student community at Royal Holloway University. In February 2023 they were finally granted permission to establish a place of worship at Egham, and now urgently require funds to secure the premises which will provide prayer, education, sports, family and health services.

Please, please consider sponsoring Maja. Any donation you can make will help bring the new mosque and community centre a step closer.

Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause!
