New scanner for @whatsuptucson

Donation protected
@whatsuptucson on Twitter (http://twitter.com/whatsuptucson) has provided local Tucson information related to traffic accidents, breaking news events, fires, police activity, lost dogs, community events, even dispatches for officers to break up parties for four years.  I've tried to build a Twitter that if I was a follower, I'd find useful myself.

This information has been cheerfully provided at no charge by Ken Carr, who has spent hundreds of hours monitoring emergency / fire / police scanner traffic as well as crowd sourcing information provided by Twitter followers.  It's a service I've provided to the Tucson community as a hobby for free.

Pima County agencies (Tucson Police, Tucson Fire, Pima County Sheriff's Department among a few) have recently switched to a new digital system that makes their scanner traffic digital as opposed to analog.  The scanner I've used to monitor the traffic is analog and can no longer receive police and fire traffic.

In order to continue providing the same level of service, a new scanner needs to be purchased.  I could use an online app, but an actual scanner allows a greater variety of channels to be monitored.  A new digital scanner is approximately $500.00.

@whatsuptucson has over 22,000 followers, which would be a one time donation of 44 cents from each follower.  That's change in your couch cushions.

If you've ever found the information Tweeted helpful or useful, please consider throwing in a buck or two.  It's the only time I'll ever ask you for anything (except when you see something happening in your neighborhood that you think should be shared, send me a Tweet so I can share it with everyone who follows).

Thank you for your consideration.
