87yr old mother about to be homeless.

Hi. My 87 year old mother has Alzheimer's, she recently had a stroke that left her blinded in one eye, she falls a lot and struggles to eat without choking. Between the Assisted Care Facility's outrageous charges and medical co-payments...she has run out of money. I have been trying to navigate the Arizona Long Term Care System (ALTCS) to get her assistance to pay for her care, but they are running me in circles. The place where she's living now doesn't accept this kind of funding and I knew I was going to have to move her to a facility that does. I told her caseworker this at the very beginning. I was told to spend down all her money below $2,000 to qualify...so I paid her current facility everything she had left. Now, they are telling me that she won't qualify because she has to already be living in the place that will accept the funding.????

So, she has to move to the new location or move into my house. If she moves back in with me, I'll have to quit my job which isn't financially feasible. To move her to the new place, I need $8,000.00 to get her in the door. I really, really hate to be asking for charity but I don't know what else to do. It's a damn shame that an 87 year old woman could become homeless or be a breaking point for me and my husband financially. We will be footing any extra bills outside of the ALTCS funding, if and when she gets it, for the rest of her life. She has no life insurance. She has nothing left and I'm responsible for her. Again, I hate to ask, but I have to. Anything will help.
