WHO WE ARE

We are the Team behind the #88 Derbycar that competes in the Demolition Derby motorsports event held at the Del Norte County Fair. 
#88 Derbycar Driver is mechanic & Glass-n-Glow artist, Carl Templeton. Carl is the son of a retired California Dept. of Corrections Officer & Vietnam Vet. He is my husband & the father of our 2 daughters. He transforms the cars, I design, and our girls keep the enthusiasm going.


Our oldest daughter is autistic, diagnosed late at age 9. Autism causes social difficulties, including relationships with family. Finding common ground with a pre-teen can be difficult without ASD. The demolition derby and #88 derbycar is something that Carl & his daughters, including his ASD daughter, genuinely enjoy together. That’s amazing!
Because of her, Carl advocates & drives for Neurodiversity & Autism Awareness.
Both of his girls like riding in #88 derbycar!


WHAT WE DO

The average car takes over a month (the "40+ hours a week" kind of month) to get it ‘derby ready’. Locating a suitable car, stripping it down to metal (nothing flammable!), making necessary repairs, & adding required safety modifications, requires professional tools, mechanical skill, and mad scientist creativity.

Team #88 Derbycar is gearing up for, not just one, but TWO Demolition Derbies at the Del Norte County Fair! This year, there is a derby for the compact class. #88.eight is a '96 Honda. In addition to derby prep, this car needs a transmission and both cars need tires.

 We've painted the Honda black and added green numbers. To complement our ’88 Lincoln Town Car, a.k.a. Creeper Car, the Honda got a Minecraft Enderman hood face. The derby cars are themed after the girls' favorite gaming characters.


WHY WE DO IT

We’ve been asked, “Why put so much effort into something that’s just gonna get trashed?”

Why do bakers make beautiful deserts that just get eaten? Why do Buddhist monks create Intricate sand mandalas just to blow them away?

Why do anything less?

We want the audience to enjoy our cars at the derby. We want them to remember our “green car”, “creeper car”, or “big 88”. We want them to see our sponsors and remember our sponsors.
We take pride in everything we do. We put so much work into derby cars, because that’s how we roll! (lol, sorry, I couldn’t help myself!)

Come see us at The Demolition Derby, every year at the Del Norte County Fair in Crescent City, CA.
This year, 2017, it's August 6th.

This will be Carl’s 4th year in the Demolition Derby.

Demolition derby cars require a surprising amount of work and expense, don't they?  The rewards of exciting competition and being involved with the community, are wonderful! But they don't pay the derby bills.
For Carl & his daughters, it doesn't matter. Every derby moment spent together is priceless.
