Sullivan County Humane Society is having a tough year with more than usual special cases and many, many more kittens.
We have had triple the amount of bottle babies who require 24hr care. This includes every 2 hour feedings, regulating their body temperatures, and monitoring for any other problems that may arise.
We have had many people utilize our (much needed) Fix the Mom program. With this program, the owners of a pregnant cat, or a mom already with babies, allow us to place them in one of our wonderful foster homes to help mom along her path of motherhood. When babies are weaned from mom, we get mom spayed, fully vetted, and microchipped. Mom then will go back to her family. When the babies are old enough we fix, fully vet, and we find them their furrever homes.
We have also had a few cases this year in which we have been called to take on the care of a pregnant cat who is in active labor and is having problems with delivery. This is the case with 1 year old Roe. Roe was rushed to SAVES (a 24hr emergency animal hospital) because she had a kitten stuck in her birthing canal. To save her life she had to have emergency surgery. Sadly, none of her kittens survived.
Because of so many 'above and beyond' cases we are looking for your support in the care of Roe and to acquire a second incubator for neonatal kittens. We have had so many neonatal kittens who need incubator care this year. When they are of varying ages, it is very difficult to house them together. Adding a second incubator will help us give them the proper care they need.
