Hello community,
The residents affected by the fire are amazed and grateful for all of your generosity, I have talked to them daily over the phone, in person and have gone to their shelters. Thousands of people came together to donate food, clothing, essential items – and money. Together, we have so far raised $250,000 for our neighbors. We are diligently working on creating a equatable system to distribute your aid amongst those who need it. Thank you!
We are beginning to understand the scope of this disaster. The building contained 133 homes, and ALL of them experienced damaged in the fire. Many of the families lost everything, literally everything. Many others sustained major damage in their apartments leaving without a clear timeline to return to the place they called home. The “lucky ones” will be without their home for weeks. The money we raised will help them all take a few steps forward with their lives, but we want to do more.
That’s why we have raised the goal to $450,000 – to provide another $1500 per apartment.
Please give again if you are able. Every dollar is precious to these families.
We are working with the 89th Street Tenants Unidos so that the funds can be deposited into their account as quickly as possible. The residents of the building through their tenants union will determine the best way to distribute funds.
This week the community came together in a beautiful way to provide donated items. At this point there is no current need for more donated items. There will be many opportunities to help our neighbors in the weeks to come, but today money is the best donation you can make.
Thank you for all your love and support.

On April 6, 2021, our neighbors at the 89th and 34th Ave (89Street Tenant Unidos) suffered a fire. ALL of the 133 units were damaged, over 400 people have been displaced. A community made up of majority low-income, working class, immigrant essential workers, already experiencing the aftermath of COVID-19 are now without their homes.
It's hard to express the deep sadness we felt tonight as we looked into our neighbors eyes and asked how we could help. We know that it will take a while before our neighbors and their families are back to what they knew as normal.
This is why must activate ALL strategies to make a difference.
Many neighbors came forward to donate blankets, clothes, food, and toiletries. These donations are an immediate lifeline, but we need to do more.
Your generosity will support them during this time of need. We’ve always taken care of each other and this time is no different.
Donate today to reach someone who needs your help.
This fundraiser was created with permission and on behalf of the 89Street Tenant Unidos. They will ensure that the funds get to the families who need it.
