Helping Hudson

Hudson’s story…

Friday the 23rd June 2023, we were taken in to hospital with preeclampsia and was induced 3 times. Our son was a monkey and flipped to breach so the hospital booked a planned Caesarian. On the 27th June 2023 at 11:55 our beautiful baby boy Hudson Oliver Roebuck was born at Stepping Hill Hospital weighing 6lb 11oz. Shortly after entering the world he stopped breathing and the medical team spent 2 long minutes resuscitating him.

Five days after he arrived, we were taken back to hospital with suspected jaundice. 48 hours later, Monday the 3rd July, Hudson took a turn for the worse and was sedated in an incubator and rushed to Alder Hey Children’s Hosptial, Liverpool. It was clear that Hudson’s condition was critical.

As a Mummy and Daddy to this beautiful boy the emotional and mental impact has been horrendous. It’s hard to comprehend how our baby boy was born so healthy and happy, could suddenly be in this situation. As a dad, I am self-employed and the financial strain is really impacting us and due to the nature of Hudson’s current condition that will only get worse and our journey has only just begun.

As I’m writing this, it’s currently 12:50 on Friday 7th July and he is still being cared for by the wonderful NHS nurses at Alder Hey Children Hospital. Over the past few days he has been for several tests, scans and his sedation has only just been reduced. We are still non the wiser however he potentially has a very rare immune disorder called Haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). His future is very uncertain at the moment and all we can do is remain hopeful.

During the past 5 days, we cannot thank Alder Hey Children’s Hospital for all they have done for us as parents but most importantly our son, Hudson. The care, compassion and support they have shown us all is indescribable and they all deserve a medal.
