UPDATE ON 3/31/24:
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE for their contributions so far! They have helped get Tamara through the hardest part - getting care and a home established near her relatives in the SF Bay Area. Thankfully, the ability to move her left side has returned after getting brain surgery in late January. The biopsy came back and the diagnosis is glioblastoma, a very agressive form of brain cancer that is difficult to remove completely through surgery. She is on day 17 of radiation and on day 23 of chemo and still unable to work again. This stage of treatment will last at least another 6 months.
We are fortunate that California has good health care options for people in her situation, but there are still lots of gaps in her care and needs. Her children and extended family are doing what they can, but it just isn't enough to be at ease.
We humbly ask that you consider chipping in what you can to get through this next stage of this difficult story.
In community,
Kimba

Dear community,
It is with a heavy heart that we reach out to share that our beloved mother, sister, daughter, and life-long organic gardener and community organizer, Tamara Newton, has suffered a brain hemorrhage (potentially caused by a tumor). She is paralyzed on her left side and cannot walk and requires full time care. She will need surgery or/and other medication interventions in a few weeks once the doctors determine the size of the suspected tumor. She has a long road of recovery and life-adjustments ahead of her and could use all the prayers and support she can get from her community.
Some of you may know her as the giver of amazing chocolate-making experiences; or as provider of incredible farm-to-table meals; or as producer of ecological and agricultural workshops on her farm and Three Seeds Eco-Education camp in Costa Rica; or as a landscape designer of amazing gardens with RV Landscaping in New Jersey; or for her deep commitment to her community and the rainforest through the sale of hand-crafted items made by Costa Rican women's groups.
We, as her family, know her as one of the most hard working individuals we have ever witnessed. She is a resilient and loving woman who has made endless sacrifices for her children and to tend to the Earth in a responsible way.
She is a survivor of many hardships in her short life, and we know this next chapter will be hard, but she will overcome and shine through with her faith, postivity, and determination, like she always has.
There is no doubt that it will be SO much easier for her if you join us in showering her with blessings and support in this time of need. She cannot work at this time, has limited savings and many new expenses. AND all this happened within days of moving from New Jersey to California with her youngest son. We are thankful she is closer to family and we will be taking turns helping care for her and will make sure to keep you posted on her progress.
Any amount helps and sends her the message that she is surrounded and cared for by the beautiful community she helped create around her through all her years of selfless giving and dedication to make this world a better place.
Thank you and blessings,
Tamara Newton's Family
