Help Sandy Remain Independent!

About ten years ago, Sandy Roussell was diagnosed with Cone Dystrophy, a disease of the eyes. Although there is no treatment for Cone Dystrophy, certain supplements may help in delaying the progression of the disease.

Sandy has raised her son by riding the bus to school, work, shopping and everything else she needed to do to take care of herself and her son. She had to reserve or cancel the bus 24 hours ahead of time. Sandy and her son, Levi  often withstood terrible weather and unpredictable circumstances waiting for the bus, occasionally with no bus showing up. She always had to plan their lives and plans carefully ahead of time. She had loved ones who would help provide rides when they could, but she still had to depend on herself a lot of times.

Fortunately, after a few years, she was able to obtain a special kind of driving glasses called biopic glasses that allowed her to drive.  Insurance does not cover the costs. It is considered 'cosmetic' in the insurance company's eyes. In Sandy's words, "Who wants to look like a robot?!" Her biopic lens for her right eye cost her $1,800. With the help of Lion's Club and a few friends, they were able to raise funds for her. She could only drive during clear weather and only in the daytime. This has gained her back a great deal of independence.

Unfortunately, her right eye has started to deteriorate over a month ago.  She has seen her eye doctor who has granted approval for her to continue driving. The doctor advised that she would now need a biopic lens for her left eye, as the vision in her right eye has become more blurred. Her doctor has taken measurements and everything else necessary to order her new biopic glasses once she has the funds. She needs $1,900 to obtain the new biopic lens. It has been a very difficult and emotional roller coaster for Sandy the past 10 years. She has worked so hard to make ends meet and raise her son. She is a very proud and hardworking mother. Her son is now a proud sophomore at Dartmouth!

if you can find it in your hearts to share this with others, please do do. She needs your help in making this possible. Thank you for loving, sharing and caring!
