Neponset Park Improvement Project

Donation protected
We are in the process of applying for a matching grant from the state of Illinois that would improve and enhance Scott Park in Neponset, in an effort to meet the needs of its residents. To do so, several amenities are needed to improve the park.

It is our hope to raise money for a park pavilion, complete with picnic tables,  to be constructed behind the community building.  There will also a handicapped accessible restroom, and a veterans’ memorial, as well as several other improvements. These other improvements may include games such as bags, horseshoes, or disk golf, and possibly a native perennial or butterfly garden. We welcome and appreciate ideas and input on what these might include.

The total cost for the projects is estimated at $100,000. Due to the 50/50 nature of the grant, we are aiming to raise as close to the $50,000 as possible. While this is a big goal for a community the size of Neponset, we believe it is necessary to keep moving the community forward.

An effort to upgrade the community building has been ongoing in the past several years, and it continues to be a busy place for community gatherings. It is also rented out on a regular basis for family reunions, showers, funeral dinners, church services, community suppers, and other events. Having the pavilion and other park improvements nearby would be an added benefit for the community and surrounding area.

As you may know, Neponset has struggled economically for a number of years, and the village board and other members of the community are working to improve the quality of life in Neponset, as well as boosting Neponset’s overall image. We realize that much more work needs to be done, but every improvement will help.

Neponset is fortunate to have Neponset Grade School, which is still a K-8 building, Martin Engineering’s World Headquarters and Research Center, two churches, Neponset Historical Society, Community State Bank, The Oasis bar and grill, the Hometown Express gas station, Neponset Truck and Tractor, several other community organizations, affordable housing, and a lot of nice people. Our goal is to recognize and appreciate what we do have, and improve on that—in hopes of improving the quality of life and attracting more people to Neponset.

In order to meet the goal of the project, we need the support of the community, as well as your help. Please consider donating to this worthwhile project.

We appreciate any and all assistance with this funding.

Sincerely,
The Neponset Park Grant Committee:
