Help a Family in Need

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Eric and I started this fundraiser to help a good friend and a CMU grad. Some of you may know him as Boomer. In March of last year, tragedy struck Boomer and his family when he suffered a major brain hemorrhage at his home. He nearly died that day, but somehow he has overcome extreme odds to still be with us. However, his condition remains bedridden, and can barely recognize and communicate with his friends and family. I've seen him many times and have yet to hear him speak or recognize me. It's been a nightmare year and a half watching him go from rehab centers to the next. But it's been worse on his family. Boomer is a husband and a father of 3 little ones. If anyone knows Boomer, he's a family man. He coached his son in sports, tea parties with his daughter, and all that jazz.

Currently, Boomer is staying in a home where he receives round-the-clock care. His wife takes him home when she can, but I imagine it takes a lot. Recently, his care provider asked him what he wants (this is typical for them to do even though he rarely responds) and he was able to mutter the words, "Go home." It's heartwrenching to hear.

I fully believe he is aware of the people that are around him, which is why it's more important than ever that he can spend as much time around his family. I've been hesitant to reach out to strangers as I don't like doing that, and if you know Boomer, he's even more against it. But right now is not the time to let pride get in the way of what's important.

Boomer and I lived and breathed Maroon and Gold for 7 years (some people go to college for 7 years...yea, they're called doctors). We bounced around from Lexington, to Cherry Street, to Bellows. He always sports his CMU apparel on game day and always texts me a "Fire Up" when the football team is doing their thing. My point is, he's one of us.

Every little bit helps. I can only imagine the bills the family has awaiting them, but right now, we just want him to be able to go live with his family. Appreciate you taking the time to listen if you made it this far in the story. Hopefully, it doesn't end here.
