My name is Kelly Reed, and I have been on difficult journey for the past 12 years or so. In December 2015, I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis (PF) which is a disease where the lungs harden and it makes it difficult for oxygen to pass through the air sacs (alveoli). People with PF will eventually become supplemental oxygen. The only "cure" for this disease is a double lung transplant. So in June of 2019 I did receive a double lung transplant at DUKE HOSPITAL in Durham, NC. I have had a wonderful medical team, however, I had many complications since day one. I never really "got off the ground", so to speak. My doctors have decided that my body is in chronic rejection and I will need ANOTHER double lung transplant! So in April of this year (2021) my daughter, Hannah, and I moved back to Durham so I could start a rehab program to prepare for my upcoming surgery. I have been in rehab an exercise program with PTs and RTs (physical and respiratory therapists) to guide me each step of the way, along with providing as much oxygen as it takes to do the exercises needed to strengthen my muscles.
After my last test on Monday, August 16th, I should be put on the list for new lungs. This is both exciting and terrifying. Nevertheless, I know that my God will supply all my needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19.
Here is more information about me, personally. I am a divorced mother of 3 adult kids. My twin sons are starting College in a week and my daughter, Hannah is my care giver. We covet your prayer and ask you to share my story. The Lord has blessed me with 2 more years of life because of my first transplant and I'm thankful for the opportunity for a second chance to breathe deeply!
Thank you for taking time to read my story.
God bless you,
Kelly Reed
Isaiah 41:13 has been verse that has comforted me throughout my journey.
'For I AM the LORD YOUR GOD, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, DO NOT FEAR, for I will help you"
