With a heavy heart, we write to share with you the devastating news that Rafa passed away in a tragic drowning accident.

His enormous heart, contagious smile, and unwavering brightness touched every corner of the CPSolvers community and rippled far beyond.

He impacted the lives of so many despite being so young.

He proudly shared on Twitter, "Son of a tailor and confectionary vendor born and raised in rural Brazil. And now incoming internal medicine resident at the University of Colorado. Never let anyone tell you that your dreams are too big for you!"

His dream was to become a US-trained doctor and provide support to his parents who face financial hardship.

He will never get to fulfill his dream of becoming a US-trained doctor, but help us realize his dream of supporting his parents.

Rafa we love you. We thank you. We miss you.
