Silvera Jewelry School

My wife, Anat, and I founded Silvera Jewelry School  in 2010 in Berkeley, CA. After decades of working as jewelers and teachers, we followed our dream and opened our own school.  Our school has become a welcoming and friendly home for teachers and students - for those seeking to share the art of jewelry and those wanting to learn new and traditional skills. Our school has been a wonderful success story and now we ask the help of our friends, students, participants and anyone sharing our passion to help us continue our tradition.

Our school has a great national reputation for high quality classes with talented and award winning masters of the craft. We nurture this spirit of sharing with a well equipped classroom and high standards in instruction, organization, cleanliness and tools. Since opening, thousands of students have come from all over the Bay Area and the world to study with us, stay in local lodgings, eat at restaurants, shop and enjoy all the amazing wonders that our area has to offer. As a hub for our local jewelry community we regularly partner with the San Francisco Metal Arts Guild, the Center for Enamel Art  and other organizations to help promote their events and workshops. We host free talks with jewelry artists and professionals, and gather for monthly student peer group meetings to share inspiration and ideas with each other.

We love being a place for people to meet and share their craft. We develop long standing relationships with our students, and we are so proud to have seen many of them become professional independent jewelry artists and instructors in their own right.

Since the Stay-at-Home orders began, all of our workshops have been canceled or postponed for months with no certain date for reopening. We’ve dug deep into our own personal savings to not only keep up with our payroll, rent and expenses as a brick and mortar school, but also to refund class fees - money that had already been used to pay our teachers and employees, and for materials and tools.  It's not in our nature to ask for help, and we've worked hard and sacrificed to get where we are today. But we're facing extraordinary times and we need your immediate help.

After no success with applications for small business resources and loans we are turning to the community we love and asking for your help.  We know this is a  challenging and unpredictable time for everyone, and there are many organizations and individuals in need. If you are in a position to help us, or know others who are, we would be incredibly grateful for any amount of support.

With your help, we can continue to pay our teachers and employees. Their talent, hard work and dedication has been a huge part of creating our school and its reputation. Your donations will not only keep our lights on, pay our rent, but it will also help us to adapt our school to this new world. We are hard at work creating remote learning classes, and online versions of our free talks and student groups. That requires investment in equipment and tech. We are also adapting our classroom to meet CDC guidelines and physical distancing rules for when we can reopen.

Your support will help us to continue to make a home for teachers and students, in person and online, and keep our school alive as a place that fosters the spirit of creativity, expression and innovation for new generations of jewelers.

With much love and gratitude,

Anat and Joe Silvera and the team at Silvera Jewelry School
