Detroit’s own, Ruby Holiday, stroke survivor

Donation protected
As many of you know, Ruby Holiday / Gabe Murray suffered a stroke in 2020. This left him with an array of medical issues, including problems with speech as well as being paralyzed on one half of his body. There’s been some issues getting proper therapy to get his quality of life as good as it potentially can be. From CA, Jon n Ruby moved in with Jon’s mother, but being in small living quarters was really affecting his mental state. The decision came to move back to MI, where Ruby is from, and has a more solid support base. Shortly after relocation, Ruby had an accident, which broke his femur and required emergency surgery. Mind you, at this point he had Medicaid from the state of Nevada. Attempts were made to contact the proper folks in Nevada to inform them that they had relocated to MI, but the office remained closed and it took much longer to take care of these things. Because Medicaid was from another state, benefits were cut off and Ruby was sent home prematurely from his hospital stay. Now, if things couldn’t get worse…. Ruby has had issues with upper quadrant pain in his abdomen. A previous visit Dr had recommended gallbladder removal. The attempt to do this was done in MI…. The laparoscopic surgery had to be changed to open surgery. The gallbladder ended up being ok, however they discovered he had stage 2 liver cirrhosis. On top of that, remember the issue with Nevada? Well they came back to tell Ruby that he was overpaid by $6000…. So they’ve been deducting that from the small stipend of $212 that SSI provides. You might also ask, what about SSDI…. Well it appears that the reason Ruby has been denied repeatedly for the past 3 years is due to missing information in his recorded work history, causing him to fall short on work credits. Taxes were paid those years and records are in hand. We’ll need to contact the IRS to clear up this mess. We’ll need to hire a CPA or tax lawyer to fix this.

in the meantime, there’s been an array of things that Ruby needs that medicaid won’t cover, such as a motorized wheelchair with one handed control, to improve his quality of life. Any amount is greatly appreciated.
