Help replacing our family car after shooting

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Shadayra Kilfoy-Flores.

EXTREME TRIGGER WARNING⚠️

I'm the survivor of a drive by shooting early Thursday day morning on October 5th.

I've needed time to process what happened to me before sharing this extremely traumatic experience.

I'm truly grateful for my life and the lives of each and every one of you.

I'm okay physically but emotionally messed up.

I'm not okay.

I need my community to be gentle with me, my children, my mother and one another.

Wednesday evening my daughter Sirena and I graduated from the Madison Black Chamber of Commerce Incubator program for entrepreneurs. We went out for a late dinner to celebrate and drove separately.

On my way home a large black truck, Escalade or Tahoe, came up behind me really fast going east on Williamson St. They tried to pass me in the incoming lane near the gas station after Ingersoll but couldn't due to the islands by the Few St intersection.

As I turned left onto Few St. they started shooting at me.

The first shot made me hit my brakes. I wasn't sure if it was my tire.

Then they kept shooting and shooting and shooting and shooting AND SHOOTING. It took a second to figured out what was happening. All of my windows were shot out and there were sparks flying from the bullets.

I crouched down and drove as fast as I could down Few St. As the black truck continued down Williamson St.

Then parked and ran to a neighbors. I didn't know if the shooter/s would back up or come around the corner to try to finish me off?!

I'd like to think this was an extreme case of road rage but it felt much more than just some warning shots. Someone actually tried to kill me.

I can't help but be slightly paranoid thinking to possibly shut me up. I am after all the Chair of Madison's Police Civilian Oversight Board and have been a target for a number of angry white supremacists.

I can't run. My right foot was rebuilt 20 yrs ago. My only option was to seek help.

The poor neighbor, whose house I ran to, who so bravely opened her door, was covered in tubes and wires (she was doing as sleep study). I thought great, I'm going to give this poor lady a heart attack!

I went to the right door for help. Turns out that she knows my mother and loves my mosaic at the Social Justice Center.

MPD has been very helpful. From Assistant Chief, John Patterson, to the officer on the scene and the detective who has been assigned to the case.

All of my belongings including my wallet, briefcase and laptop were delivered to my door after being released from evidence. It was all covered in glass.

They shot at least 6 rounds at me. The police found 4 bullets in our car

Our car is totaled. Sirena and I have been sharing the car for our multitude of jobs and to get my son to and from school and his programing. It's an object that I'm not attached to.

I'm just happy to be alive❣️

Again, I ask that you please be gentle and patient with me, and my family during this difficult time. I've set up a gofundme if people are so inclined to help.
I'm not going to shut up. I'm going to keep up the good fight I was meant to fight.

Please understand if I don't reply this next week. I am going to take a well deserved break.❤️‍
Thank you for helping our family. I appreciate and LOVE YOU❣️
