Kitten Incubator

One of the most dedicated kitten foster coordinators needs help buying an incubator! Most foster parents will take ONE litter of kittens to care for until they're of the appropriate age for adoption. At the end of the day in the shelter, there are always more neonatal kittens that need round-the-clock care. Leaving these kittens alone in the shelter overnight is not possible, as they need to be consistently warm and fed every 2 hours. Every sick, orphaned, neonatal kitten left at the end of the day will most certainly go home with the best foster mom around. Sacrificing sleep and almost sacrificing sanity, some days she will go into work with 6+ carriers filled with sick, injured, or orphaned kittens (and other species, as she also does neonatal wildlife rehabilitation). Being able to maintain a consistently warm environment for these kittens with an incubator would be a "game changer". 

Caring for neonatal kittens is challenging, to say the least. One of the many important aspects of caring for newborn kittens is maintaining a warm environment for them. Neonatal kittens are unable to regulate their own body temperature. Because of this, being able to snuggle up to mom and siblings is the only way for kittens to stay warm. Most kittens in foster care are without mom, which means it's the foster person's responsibility to ensure the kittens stay warm. Most safe objects for warming kittens need to be reheated every couple of hours, leaving the kittens to slowly cool as the warming object cools down. While incubators are expensive, they are the most ideal way to maintain a safe, stable-temperature environment for neonates.
