I suffer with a muscle wasting condition called FSH Muscular Dystrophy which the doctors know of no cure!
Nottinghamshire County Council in their wisdom have decided to plunder and decimate my pension that I use to live on on a daily basis by more than half of its value leaving me just £151.40 to live on per week prior to paying any utilities, food or any other household expenses.
Nottinghamshire County Council in their wisdom have decided to plunder and decimate my pension that I use to live on on a daily basis by more than half of its value leaving me just £151.40 to live on per week prior to paying any utilities, food or any other household expenses.
Having worked hard in spite of my condition and against all the odds especially the last 10 years confined to a wheelchair I have been living comfortably and well within my means, that was until the council decided otherwise and placed me £100 in the red every month from this point on. A debt that will grow month on month and put my home at risk. All this to the backdrop of the council failing to inform me of the charges until I was already hundreds of pounds in debt via a letter that they admitted they failed to send me which meant I only found out when I went to pay my carers and discovered the money was down by £1100.00
What are these funds for?
1, To pay for my own carers for at least the next 15-20 years
2, Allow me to remain in my own home with the care I require and installing a up and through lift.
3, Stop the almost certainty of losing my carers due to lack of funding and leaving me vulnerable as I do not have the funds they ask for plus the Hundreds in areas that I did not know existed as they failed to inform me about until it was already a large debt.
4, Fight the injustice that has been bestowed upon me by the council which renders me to live without heating and leaving me at risk from the cold along with other safeguarding issues.
5, Fund a legal team to challenge the council to enable people to keep the majority of their pensions.
6, With the help of my MP get it debated in parliament and change the legislation to enable people to keep their pensions by exempting them from unreasonable charges.
Long term aim
If I can achieve these objectives, I will be able to adapt and remain in my own home, which I have worked so hard for as moving would not benefit my well being as i will lose both of my staff that are well versed in coping with my unique disability. I would also be in a good position to change the law for others in my situation by protecting their pensions. This would benefit everyone both now and in the future.
