Hi, my name is Joy and I’m proud to be Dakotah’s Mom. My son was the unfortunate victim of a shooting early morning on May 6, 2022, in Lincoln Park (Chicago). He was walking down the sidewalk when he was ambushed by a man who hid behind a building, who was prepared to rob him for his bag and cellphone. My son fought back and another assailant got out of the white sedan car (seen in the video) and this is when several shots were fired, which hit Dakotah twice in the side and the neck. My son is no longer in critical condition. He has had 6 surgeries and a above the knee amputation where he will need a prosthetic.

Dakotah is my hero every day he is fighting and accomplishing things that modern science didn’t think he could do.

My family and I are raising money at this time for his medical bills as well as our travel expenses to travel to Chicago, as we all live out of state. Dakotah has decided to stay in Chicago and finally wants to learn to drive and go back to school. He can and will do all those things.
Dakotah just celebrated his golden 24th birthday. He was so happy to see all the well wishes and the cards from complete strangers who have showed so much love.
As a family, we are asking if you are able and willing, please donate or send prayers. Anything is appreciated at this time as this has rocked our world.
Thank you in advance and please pray that Dakotah keeps advancing and moving forward. We know all of Chicago has his back. With the strength of the City all things are possible. A true son of Chicago.

Always his Mom
