Making Each Day Count

Our brother-in-law Tim Samec is 57 years old and was diagnosed on April 20th with stage 4 esophageal cancer. For those of you who know Tim, you know he is an extraordinary human being; strong, proud, cheerful, loving, giving, and funny (or so he thinks). Tim has a long history of putting the needs of his family and friends before himself. This news is devastating to all who know him.

Since the diagnosis, he has undergone aggressive chemotherapy treatments. On July 12, Tim and his family met with the doctors at the Mayo Clinic and were advised that the cancer was increasingly aggressive and had spread; the outcome is expected to be terminal. Tim will continue with chemotherapy as long as his body can tolerate it. The best result of the therapy would be to slow the spread of cancer and provide the family with a few extra months together.

Since Tim’s diagnosis, he has not been able to work; Delinda is a nurse at the VA and has already depleted all her PTO and a portion of her FMLA. With the road ahead, the one wish Tim & Dee have is to spend as much of the time they are given together. From an economic standpoint, this would be impossible without assistance of some sort.

There has been an outpour of people wondering how they might help; now, we have a call to action. We hope to provide some economic relief so that Tim and Dee may be able to spend quality time cherishing and reflecting on the 40 years they have shared.
