Kindergarten Field Trip!
Donation protected
We are Kindergarten teachers at a lower income charter school called Rocketship Discovery Prep in East San Jose. Our students have worked incredibly hard this year, and we want to celebrate their growth by going to the Happy Hollow Zoo in San Jose! As many of you may have experienced, field trips are some of the most memorable and enjoyable aspects of elementary school, and we are excited for our students to get this experience.
Unfortunately, our school does not have funding for a field trip, and our students must pay for everything out of pocket to attend. While we are fundraising at our school, it is difficult to reach our fundraising goal within our small community.
About our school and student body:
81% Hispanic, 11% Asian
55% English Language Learners
80% Qualify for free and reduced lunch
Our students have initially arrived at school small and scared, but now have grown to be kind, silly, and brilliant students! They continually amaze us with their curiosity, grit, and joy. Not a day goes without some hilarious incident. (Things they say: "Do teachers have friends?" "Thank you for being my teacher and not going to the bathroom to teach us!" "Oops I farted. Or wait, burped?") They have also made tremendous growth in their reading, writing, and math, and had the highest growth in the entire school on our winter standardized test! We are incredibly proud and honored to be their teachers, and are hoping to reward our students' hard work through the field trip.
About the Field Trip:
At the Happy Hallow Zoo, students will be able to interact with different animals and explore their different habitats. We recognize that students learn the most through play, and this opportunity will be an unforgettable one for our kindergarteners!
Costs:
$896 to cover all students' entrance to the museum
About $2000 to cover school buses for the trip
Fundraising goal: $2000 by May 29th
While we are fundraising in our school, the costs of the school buses are our biggest burden. We would truly appreciate any contributions. Thank you for making an impact on the education of the children of San Jose!
