Help Bidwell family lay their son to rest

Terron Evans' smile entered a room before he did. Terron, 26, a beloved son, brother, uncle, all around great guy with a huge and contagious smile died unexpectedly the morning of Friday, Jan. 8.

To know Terron is to love him. His wisdom was that of someone twice his age. His kindness for all people was evident in everything he did, wherever he went. Terron always had a huge smile on his face. Terron made mistakes in life for which he paid dearly. His mental health and addiction struggles were known by many in his family and throughout the community. Drug addiction is common and prevalent struggle in this area, a fact which is even more tragic and upsetting when considering the impact and role of institutional and systemic racism in the diagnosis and treatment of African Americans with mental and emotional health issues.

Terron’s mother, Jen, BLM Potsdam founder and leader, has always feared vocally and publicly, as well as privately that her struggling son would slip through the systems that should be available to help him and that this day would come. That nightmare is now her reality. The fear and love for her son, along with that same fear and love for all her children and grandchildren, are the known impetus for her activist work, and she plans to continue the fight in his memory.

Terron was the last of his family to move here, hoping to get a fresh start and get some help. He tried and tried, and when he would try to sign up for various types of services and assistance, he met one roadblock after another. Potsdam was supposed to be the place where his life began again, but tragically, it is the place where his life came to an unnecessary and untimely end. Terron's mother would like to lay her son to rest next to his family members, in his hometown. That is going to require additional expenses to pay for a private investigator, funeral, burial, and other expenses.

Jen and the rest of Terron’s family are in deep mourning of the sudden tragic death of their son, brother, and uncle. They appreciate people reaching out to offer love, support, prayers, and encouragement during this difficult time. It has meant so much, and they would like to share this message:

“Right now, we have a lot of questions and are coming to grips with the sudden loss of our beloved Terron. We ask for time to grieve and prepare for his homegoing. We thank you for your kind and supportive thoughts, prayers, and acts.

The death of Terron has devastated our family and close friends. Terron was so loved and will be painfully missed.  TERRON’S LIFE MATTERED.  TERRON’S LIFE WILL ALWAYS MATTER.”
