Did you know that millions of U.S. public school students were homeless at some point during the 2020/2021 school year? I learned recently that the frequent school transitions and extended absences that come along with homelessness have a significant impact on youth literacy. I know my time reading as a child helped me become who I am today.
I need your help! I have created REACH to make sure that homeless children do not fall through the cracks. REACH stands for Reading Encourages Achievement, Creativity, and Hope. I am working with the Family Promise of Essex County mobile shelter to put a Kindle in the hands of homeless children.
Join me in ensuring these children gain an interest in reading early in their lives; a skill that will be beneficial to their education long term. Why Kindles rather than books? Children at Family Promise move frequently and often have little storage space. One portable reader can contain thousands upon thousands of titles and hours of adventure. These kids need your donations today!
