During the week of January 10th, Yvonne started developing symptoms of what she thought was just a common cold. On January 15th Yvonne was rushed to the emergency room due to stroke-like symptoms. She was tested and results came back positive for the COVID-19 virus. She was then transferred to the COVID unit, and was in stable condition until the next day, when she suffered a seizure. She was moved to the Intensive Care Unit to be monitored more closely, where she was kept on heavy sedation and oxygen. While in the ICU she began developing the start of pneumonia in her lungs, and was given several antibiotics to help combat the infections in her body. Over a course of 5 days her body was fighting hard against the virus attacking her. By January 19th she began showing slight signs of turning a corner, and her health began to improve, so much so, that by the 20th they were able to take her completely off of the sedation and oxygen; later that evening they were able to move her out of ICU and into the regular COVID unit of the hospital. Medical staff is continuing to monitor her and are impressed by her turnaround. It is still unclear how much longer she will remain in the hospital, but our hopes are that she will continue to improve and be discharged in the coming days.
Yvonne is a Registered Nurse who just retired in August of 2020. Nursing is one of her greatest passions, and she gave compassionate care to numerous patients in her over 30 years in the medical field. Over the span of her career she worked with patients both at the beginning and end of their lives, specializing in the areas of Labor & Delivery and Hospice Care. She has a heart of gold and has been a great friend to all whom she has touched – both in her professional and personal life; she has been described by many as “an angel on this earth”.
Because she recently retired, she is on a fixed budget. Her current admission to the hospital will bring in many medical bills and we would like to help her pay these and avoid financial hardship.
We GREATLY appreciate continued prayers and support for her during this difficult time – thank you all for caring so much and showing your love for our mother – please stay safe, and may we all get through this pandemic safely and soon.
