Walk By Faith, Not By Sight

Hello, my name is Roderick Middlebrooks. I am a devoted husband and father of six. On July 18, 2022 I went to a doctors appointment for my fistula (dialysis access port) when the doctor discovered that the injury to my right foot had advanced progressively due to lack of blood circulation to the right leg and foot. I was immediately admitted to the hospital in an effort to save my right foot. I underwent surgery to open up the veins in the right leg the next day but ultimately it was too late. I then went into surgery to have 3/4 of my right foot amputated. I then remained in the hospital for another eight days for post-op recovery and wound care. This all took place just days before my family and I were set to relocate from Decatur, GA to El Paso, TX. This move was in part to afford me a higher chance of receiving a kidney transplant. While still hospitalized, my wife had to clear out our remaining belongings in our rental home and return the keys to the Landlord before the end of the month and travel across country to Texas with our five year old son. Upon my discharge from the hospital, I was staying with family until I was medically cleared to travel. The cost of food, supplies, and getting around to dialysis and doctor's visits with Uber started to add up quickly. My wife and my son also have limited funds in Texas while she seeking gainful employment. My recovery was coming along or so I thought until my wound care appointment on August 8, 2022. It was determined by the healthcare team that my foot was not healing as it should due to severe nerve damage. My foot was dying and had to be removed. So again, I was admitted to the hospital and set up for surgery the next day. I received a below knee amputation putting me further away from recovering and joining my family in El Paso. I have been recovering in the hospital since my second surgery and just this Wednesday, August 24, 2022 I was released to a rehab facility here in Atlanta. I will be working with PT to regain my strength and learn how to balance myself. I know I have work ahead of me to get back to some sort of normalcy but I know with God and the support of my family I will. I am also asking for your support.
