9 year old Troy Russell hit and run victim
Donation protected
Hi everyone. My name is Symone Houston and I’ve made this GoFundMe on behalf of my amazing son, Troy Russell. He’s showing incredible strength despite his injuries.
August 3rd, 2020 started off as a typical day but ended as a mother’s worst nightmare. Troy had just came back from vacation and had a play date with his friend Toriano. Toriano (12y), his younger brother Max (6y), and my son Troy (9y) were riding their bikes together on the shoulder of Express Drive North. The kids were standing besides their bikes when they were hit by SHANNON PALMER.
SHANNON PALMER hit each boy separately, my son was hit first. The impact of hit thrusted his body 10ft into
the woods. The injuries my son sustained were so severe that he was airlifted to Stony Brook Hospital by helicopter and rushed into surgery.
Up til today my son has had 3 surgeries and counting. Troy’s body is covered in lacerations and bruises. He has 3 broken ribs, a broken right elbow, and a broken left thumb. His left achilles heel broke straight through and his right leg snapped in half from the impact.
Troy now faces possible amputation of his right leg which is why he will be transferred to a new hospital in the next upcoming days. We’re struggling to figure out how we’re going to commute an hour and a half each day but my husband and I are determined to give my son the best care that’s available.
In a blink of an eye our lives were forever changed. This is taking a tremendous toll on our family who’s already adjusting to Troy’s baby sister’s arrival, she’s only one month old. This is just the beginning of a long treacherous road of recovery for our family. I’m reaching out to the community to help my family in our time of need because we have no where else to turn. Any assistance we receive is greatly appreciated.
Thank You
