Independent Journalism about the US in Africa

Understanding and opposing U.S. aggression abroad has defined my intellectual and political life from a very young age. As an independent journalist, I've devoted much of the past twelve years to understanding U.S. neocolonialism in Africa, first in the African Great Lakes Region, and more recently in the Horn of Africa.
This preoccupation carries the hazard of cynicism, but heroes like Rwanda's Victoire Ingabire and Kizito Mihigo, and recent developments in the Horn of Africa keep me from drowning in it. In 2014 I was awarded the Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza Democracy and Peace Prize for my reporting on the African Great Lakes Region.
Since November 3, 2020, when the TPLF attacked an Ethiopian federal army base in the capital of the country's Tigray Province, I have focussed my attention on the Horn of Africa, where the Joint Declaration on Comprehensive Cooperation Between Ethiopia, Somalia and Eritrea promises a new day of regional integration, cooperation, peace, development, and independence from the former colonial powers. That violent act made me see what I might otherwise have missed and what I now hope to understand and report on further.
The false narrative of the corporate press that I'm committed to countering is synthesized in the Aljazeera headline, "The tripartite alliance destabilising the Horn of Africa." To my mind, nothing could be further from the truth.
I'm a Contributing Editor to Black Agenda Report, and a contributor to the San Francisco Bay View,, Black Star News, Counterpunch, Covert Action, the Grayzone, and the Pacifica Radio Network. However, there's little or no money in writing for independent press outlets, most of which have to hold their own fund drives just to keep the lights on. Any contributions to this fundraiser will go to enabling me to sustain focus on the Horn and its enormous potential.
Here are just a few examples of my most recent work:
