We Deserve A Home

Donation protected

We are building a home on the Southside. ❤️

I always planned on doing something like this. I just imagined doing it in my 60s. But as the world changes and goes through it’s many cycles, I see the importance of not waiting for a dream like this to exist.

These are things that we need right now.

Our goal is to use these funds as soon as possible to make this a reality, sooner than later.

As a kid, there were instances where I didn’t feel like there was much of a benefit from the spaces available to me. Some of them were not as safe as they should have been and others were just downright harmful. And the spaces that DID have a great impact on my life, were discontinued, not affordable on a long term basis, or didn’t exist anymore because of some other unfortunate happenstance.

Can we even talk about not having enough space to hold/house friends or loved ones who needed us during rough times too?

3 million people without homes 18 million homes without residents

The youth needs us. I’ve had moments where I wanted to run away. Times I needed shelter and mentorship. There were times where I just needed somewhere safe to take a nap before a basketball game or basketball practice. And then there were times I just needed a place to congregate with like-minded, same-aged folks to just laugh or share a meal with. Or just take a break! (Cause as we were all young once before, we know how hard it is for kids. They have their own set of problems.)

“Adults” need these same things too. When we think about the words “youth” or “young” why do we immediately think of someone under the age of 18?

If we sow positive, healing energy into the young people, we will start, as well as continue the cycle of deep care that we will have for each other. Hopefully forever.

Although I was privileged to have found pockets of this in my life, I wish that these things were always happening.

This dream is a joy of mine and I am excited to bring it to life. Something my younger self always deserved access to.

There are basic human needs that we all deserve to have fulfilled.

Housing, Healthcare, and Food/Water, just to name a few.

Think about the people you have in your life right now. How has having (good/okay/excellent/bad/toxic) shelter, food, water, clothing, housing, education, resources, and a support system affected you or their lives?

These basic human needs help us become more of who we are and who we want to be.

A good mattress can save your life.

How could this sentiment be any different when we talk about a home and housing needs? Why are basic necessities something you have to earn?

Why does our society not carry the idea of us being-inherently worthy of these things?

As hope for new source of city money fades Chicago youth homeless programs at risk of losing federal funding too

Becoming the people we strive to be, requires a stable foundation.

We all deserve healthy, prosperous upbringings.

I will be working in close proximity with a realtor and other trusted mentors and experienced folks in this field to make the best choices and the right actions for the highest good of all involved.
