Hi, my name is Ligia, and I am running this fundraiser for one of my dearest friends, Jeana, battling brain cancer and urgently needs our help.
A couple of months ago, I was shocked when I learned she was battling cancer. This was going on for many years, but it took me a long time to find out. Jeana is a beautiful inside-out 41-year-old friend with a heart of gold that would never complain about anything. We worked for the same company for many years when I was living in Romania, and we used to share late-night hours and weekends in the office working together. God put on my heart to start this fundraiser a couple of months ago, and I genuinely ask that you will be generous to help in any way you can.
It started in 2012 when Jeana collapsed, and while working in the medical field, she had the opportunity to do a CT scan. The doctors discovered a wound in her brain. She consulted a couple of neurologists who confirmed that this wound is likely hereditary but is not dangerous; she was advised to check it periodically.
In 2015 a scan was performed, and it revealed a glioma; the dimensions were relatively similar to the ones in 2012. Then again, during 2016 - 2017, Jeana had multiple episodes when she would faint and lose consciousness. This time, she blamed everything on the intense depression during that same period.
But in November 2017, she experienced another fainting episode. She also felt a claw on her chest. Then she immediately consulted a doctor, worrying that she might have experienced a heart attack. The doctors performed an EKG, which was within normal limits, then performed another CT scan on the brain that revealed a brain tumor of approximately 5 cm (approx. 2 inches). The brain tumor was taken out successfully on February 14, 2018. Unfortunately, a post-operation treatment was not offered, but doctors let it go like "we will wait and see" and offered hope for another ten years of life if the tumor won't return.
In 2018 after a brain biopsy, Jeana was diagnosed with astrocytoma stage 2. There were other CT scans to monitor the progress, but everything changed after she got infected with the Covid 19 virus. The last normal CT brain scan was in January 2021. The doctors recommended that she would follow up with another CT scan in June this year (2022), and it was discovered that the tumor had recurred and had the same size as the one from the very first brain surgery. Doctors decided to perform the second surgery on August 25th, 2022 and treatment with radiotherapy. Luckily the doctors said that the surgery was successful this time around. Following a pathological anatomy test, they concluded that the tumor was astrocytoma stage 3. She started radiotherapy treatment five days a week for six weeks.
Soon Jeana will undergo another CT scan, which will be a reference when she undergoes chemotherapy treatment starting in less than a month.
As cruel as it sounds, as the brain tumor was not enough, Jeana started to have acute back pain in her spine. After a medical investigation, it was discovered that she was diagnosed with disc hernia and L4 and L5 with broken discs. Due to the danger of rapidly remaining paralyzed, a quick decision was made to have emergency surgery to stop the paralyzing of her back. While Jeana was infected with Covid, she experienced another fainting episode which made things worse after she's already been going through enough pain after her spine surgery.
I don't know if you're aware, but astrocytoma is incurable; if you’ve done your research as I did, you will find out that it is feeding from the brain's white matter. The doctor's prognosis is that after the surgery, more radiotherapy treatment and chemotherapy, the brain cancer would go back to stage 2 in most cases. The prediction is that she will be given barely two years of life if everything goes right. The subsequent reoccurrence of the brain tumor would be the last phase, glioblastoma, which with surgery, radiotherapy, and chemo, would prolong Jeana’s life for one year.
There is a lot of debt to be paid now, and if you know how the medical system works in other counties, you would know that the doctors wouldn’t offer to operate or treat you if you don’t pay the money upfront. I would appreciate your generosity and donation for Jeana’s cancer treatment. As for myself, I know that life is too short, and I don’t want to regret that I haven’t done everything in my strength to alleviate her suffering and ease the financial burden. I know Jeana is going to her oncology appointment in less than three weeks (mid-December), and she would have to pay money upfront to be treated by her doctors. So please be generous and spread a helping hand towards her past and upcoming medical bills. Also, at the same time, please keep Jeana and her whole family in your prayers. I know she’s a strong young woman, and I admire her perspective on life. She firmly believes that her brain cancer journey is a blessing. So, I learned a hard lesson right there while talking to her.
I know that God is in control, and He’s the one that will determine how long our journey on earth is. I also know that when we open our hearts to bless those who need help at the opportune time, He will also bless us 100-fold.
Thank you so much for opening your heart to donate to my lovely friend, Jeana.
Warmly,
Ligia
