Driving While Black
Donation protected
My son was the victim of a hate crime. On Monday, June 1st- while driving home from work he took a detour in an attempt to avoid traffic. This decision would forever change his life. Residents in the town of Cicero decided they did not want a black man driving in their neighborhood, so they decided to attack him.
They began to throw rocks, bricks and other items at him as he drove. Then, someone decided to throw a metal spear threw his windshield impaling him in the neck causing him to spin out of control and crash. Rather than rush to help, many chose to simply watch, record and post online for all to see. I don't know how a person can have so much hate for someone because of the color of their skin and that they have never met.
I do want to say "THANK YOU" to the person that did help him- you are a "HERO". He is truly blessed to be alive. Now he needs your help to heal his pain and move on. He has a long road to recovery. He now has no income, his car is totaled, medical expenses are piling up and he is a father. In addition, the attack was near his home so his safety is still a major concern. He needs to relocate to a safer neighborhood and not live in fear for his life. I am asking for your help to take some of the burden off of my 25 year-old son, who has the rest of his life to look forward to.
