To everyone who may not yet have heard the unfortunate news, beloved son, brother, and family member, Devontay A. Roscoe’s life was violently and senselessly taken from him Thursday night December 27th. According to his mother, Devontay was brutally shot approximately at 9:37pm after merely answering the door at their residence on the 1700 block of Essie McIntyre Boulevard. He was rushed to Augusta University Medical Center, but sadly was pronounced dead at 10:18pm. The Richmond County Sherriff’s Office is still investigating his murder. Needless to say, what has happened is beyond comprehension and the family is still in shock. Devontay leaves behind his mother (Elaine), 4 siblings (Desmon, Damarko, Darius, Bianca), many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends. Understandably his mother, Elaine is struggling to cope with the loss of her son, so this campaign was created by a family member to assist with Devontay’s funeral and burial expenses. Devontay was loved by so many and the outpouring of love, prayers and support has truly been a blessing. Devontay A. Roscoe, a Josey High School graduate was best known for his basketball skills, affectious smile, and sense of humor. Devontay, just 24 years old had a promising future, but his family will never get the chance to see him grow up and become that father, husband, or great leader he was destined to be. Instead his mother has to not only deal with the tragic loss of her son, but the financial burden of providing him with a proper burial because of the gun violence epidemic and the devastation homicide inflicts on young black adults. So while Devontay’s mother and family tries to make sense of what has happened, the least of their concerns should be how to pay for the funeral he deserves. Please consider helping by donating any amount you can to alleviate some of the load that his family will continue to bare throughout this difficult time. All donations will be received by his mother, Elaine. Funeral arrangements are still being arranged, and any updates regarding locations and times will be posted here. Anything you can do to help would be a great blessing to her and the family.
